I know tons of people that continuously struggle with their weight. It’s up and down all the time for them. Old habits are hard to break and new ones even harder to create. It seems like they will be “good” for a while, lose the weight they wanted to shed and then the slow climb back up on the scale immediately resumes. One only has to take a look in the grocery baskets of most people to understand why they gain the weight back. But I’m not going to address our eating habits, portion sizes, or even the emotional eating that we do. I want to talk about what’s in your closet for a moment.
I think just about everybody I know has “fat jeans” and “skinny jeans”. I ask, why? If you have struggled to lose weight and you finally reach your goal, plan on staying there. It’s like a guarantee that you will, once again, fit into those fat jeans that you want to NOT fit into if you keep a closet full of them! How can I stress this enough? GET RID OF YOUR FAT JEANS!!! Unless you are in child-bearing years or have a health condition that causes weight fluctuations, give ‘em all away! What more motivation do you need other than knowing that keeping them will insure that you will need them?
I don’t pay attention to the scale. I know that I’ve gained “real” weight when my clothes are tight. I promise, if you go through a couple of uncomfortable days wearing jeans that barely zip and you have to go through all kinds of bending, pulling and deep knee bends just to get them on, it’s GREAT incentive to eat a little healthier. If you truly know that you have no options for larger clothes, then you will most likely stay in the size that is hanging in your closet. So ditch that backup plan and buy yourself some more skinny jeans!
